On July 28th, 2023, an agreement was signed between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat to collaborate on the ASEAN-JICA Food Value Chain Development Project (AJFVC). This project is part of a broader Technical Cooperation that was established in May 2019 between ASEAN and the Government of Japan.
The primary goal of this project is to expand upon the progress made by prior cooperative efforts related to food value chain (FVC) development in Southeast Asian countries and establish a platform for sharing these advancements throughout the region. The project has four primary objectives, which include developing methods to promote and market Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in Southeast Asian countries, enhancing analysis of pesticide residues to improve Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures in ASEAN Member States, promoting Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP) to enhance food safety in the fisheries sector, and creating strategies for promoting Public and Private Partnership (PPP) based Food Value Chain and establishing guidelines and policies for inspecting mechanisms.
