In April, the AJFVC Project team, conducted a field study in Thailand and Indonesia. During their visit to Thailand, the team had discussions with key stakeholders in the country, such as the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, the Department of Agriculture (DOA), the Department of Medical Sciences, and Central Lab Thai to discuss the implementation of Strengthen Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures and pesticide residue control.
Similarly, in Indonesia, the team engaged with the Directorate of Food Crop Protection, the Plant Product Quality Testing Center, the Agricultural Instruments Standardization Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Directorate of Standardization and Quality Control under the Ministry of Trade. The team also visited the pesticide laboratories of both institutions to further their research.
As part of the AJFVC activities and to promote collaboration among AMSs to strengthen SPS measures, the team plans to continue their study in Malaysia and revisit Thailand for the comprehensive technical assessments of the pesticide residue laboratories. This study is a significant step towards improving the SPS measures in the AMSs. It is hoped that the insights gained from the field study will contribute to the development of effective policies that will protect the safety and health of people and the environment.
